WEIMA ELECTRIC Provides Spare Motors for the Nordgold Lefa Gold Mine Project in Guinea
Enterprise Introduction
Nordgold, formerly known as Severstal Gold, is a subsidiary of the Russian steel company Severstal which is owned by Alexey Mordashov.
In early 2012, the Russian gold mining company Nordgold separated from Russian steel company Severstal and became a publicly listed company on the London Stock Exchange through global depositary receipts.
In 2010, Nordgold acquired Société Minière de Dinguiray (SMD) in Guinea and obtained the mining rights for the Lefa Gold Mine in Guinea.
The Lefa Gold Mine located in the provinces of Siguiri and Dinguiraye, 700 kilometers away from Conakry - the capital city of Guinea, has abundant gold reserves in Guinea.
The Lefa Gold Mine began mining since 2008 and was acquired by Nordgold in July 2010.
The Lefa Gold Mine has three large mining areas and some small mining areas. In 2015, Nordgold achieved good performance at the Lefa Gold Mine in Guinea, processing 6.558 million tons of ore and producing 214.2 thousand ounces of gold. The average mining cost was USD $1,164 per ounce and the total revenue was USD $260 million.
Project Introduction
Ball Mill is the key equipment in the gold ore beneficiation process, which directly affects the efficiency and product quality of gold ore. The motor equipped on the ball mill is of utmost importance. Once the motor malfunctions or stops, the losses caused are incalculable. So Nordgold planned to purchase two 3800kW-10P motors as backup machines.

According to the technical specifications and outline dimensions of the original motor provided by Nordgold's technical team in Russia, WEIMA ELECTRIC provided TECO AEZT - the high voltage slip ring induction motor model with a fully enclosed steel frame, which is a new series of products optimized and designed applying the technology of TECO Westinghouse in the United States. Adopting the new process, it has many advantages like simplified equipment, reliable operation, investment savings, and reduced energy consumption. It is safe and reliable to operate, easy to install and maintain, and suitable for driving various common machineries such as ventilation fans, compressors, water pumps, coal mills, steel mills, and winches etc..
